Inflatable paint drips as stage set and screen: set build, lighting, projection and SFX for 14 shows in eleven venues.

For the autumn leg of their “Bevor der Mut dich verlässt” tour, Das Lumpenpack wanted a stage you recognise instantly: giant inflatable paint drips hanging above the band as a backdrop and spilling over risers and stairs right to the edge of the stage. But the drips were never meant to be mere decoration. They double as a screen for lyrics and graphics.
For us, that meant a projection surface made of air and fabric that is anything but flat. Add a lighting design that stages the set instead of drowning it out, and a complete package that can be set up and struck quickly and reliably night after night in changing venues.
The schedule: 14 shows in eleven venues in October 2026, from the hall at Schlachthof Wiesbaden via the Zenith in Munich and the Palladium in Cologne to the Turbinenhalle Oberhausen. From 5 to 8 October alone, the tour played four cities on four consecutive days: Nuremberg, Berlin, Hamburg and Hanover.
photon took on the set build and the entire technical package. The staging came from us too: we built the risers and stairs that carry the drips to the edge of the stage from Mott stage decks.
We realised the lighting design by Bianca Knehr (Strobobibi) with our lighting equipment: a matrix of Robe ESPRITE hangs above the stage in its own frame of Litecraft truss. On the floor, more ESPRITE, Martin MAC Aura PXL, GLP X5 Bars and Roxx Neo FX join in. HOFFORK towers on dollies provide the side positions. Everything runs on grandMA3 with a processing unit and a Luminex network. MDG and Hazebase hazers give the beams depth. Before the tour started, there were three rehearsal days at Schlachthof Wiesbaden.
For the projection, two Panasonic PT-RQ33K cover the backdrop, fed by a media server running Resolume Arena, so the content runs directly across the structure of the drips. A Robe ESPRITE with a custom-made gobo projects onto the kabuki curtain.
For the big moments, Magic FX Proshots and Power Drops deliver black confetti and purple streamers. The crew talks over Green-GO wireless intercom, and power runs through touring-ready distribution with a 125 A distro. Our team on the road covered technical lead and lighting systems, media systems and set crew.
14 shows in eleven venues, and every night the set stood exactly as intended, including the week with four cities on four days. The paint drips became the signature of the tour, and the fans celebrated the show enthusiastically.
Concept, stage design and lighting design by Bianca Knehr (Strobobibi); realisation, set build and technology by photon, with lighting, video, SFX, rigging and intercom as a complete package from one source. The result is a stage set that becomes a storytelling element of the show itself.
