Randale and Friends Festival 2023

01. The challenge

The Randale & Friends Festival 2023 took place in the Rheinaue in Bonn and, as an open-air festival, placed special technical, organizational and time requirements on all participating trades. In addition to classic festival production, the event was characterized by exceptional external circumstances: In the short term, the organizer was sued as part of an urgent procedure, which left the entire event on the brink of danger until shortly before production began.

As a result, the almost completed stage had to be completely relocated at short notice and rebuilt in the opposite direction. This led to massively reduced set-up times, spontaneous planning changes and significantly increased time and performance pressure. In addition, adverse weather conditions made work on site more difficult. In order to still meet the production schedule, it was necessary to work an extensive night shift.

Particular challenges were the short-term replanning of the lighting, rigging and electricity infrastructure, safe implementation under time pressure, and coordinating personnel, logistics and technology within an extremely tight time window.

02. Our solution

We took over the entire trade for the Randale & Friends Festival Lighting technology including rigging and power supply, as well as the provision of qualified specialists and complete logistics. The client was Laute Nette Leute GmbH.

Despite the short-term rescheduling, we responded flexibly and in a structured manner to the new situation. The lighting design was adapted to the changed stage position, all rigging and power concepts were reassessed and safely implemented within a very short period of time. A powerful lighting setup was used consisting of Robe Esprit and Robe Spiider, supplemented by a Robe Follow Spot System, which was integrated into the front crossbar.

Through the coordinated deployment of additional crew capacities, close coordination with production and organizers, and a clear division of tasks, it was possible to complete the rebuilding of the stage, including lighting technology, on time under difficult conditions. The focus was always on safety, functionality and suitability for shows.

03. The result

Despite the exceptional framework conditions, short-term replanning and significantly reduced set-up time, the Randale & Friends Festival 2023 was successfully and technically reliable. The lighting technology worked stably, efficiently and precisely and made a significant contribution to the effect of the show and to the atmosphere of the festival.

On the day of the event itself, production was running smoothly with an enthusiastic and cheerful number of visitors. The result was a successful festival that showed how high-quality event technology can be implemented through teamwork, flexibility and technical expertise even under extreme time pressure.
