Hooray, we're still alive! — Lighting design for an open-air TV production

01. The challenge

In September 2022, the television program was “Hooray, we're still alive! ” with Jürgen B. Hausmann produced on the open-air stage at Wilhelmstein Castle — an order from Pro GmbH for the WDR. This involved overcoming numerous technical and logistical challenges in order to create a perfect balance between live event and TV aesthetics:

• Open-air stage: Adaptation to changing natural lighting conditions and weather conditions.
• TV-compatible light: Illumination that inspires both live viewers and camera images.
• Logistics: Long cable routes and a complex charging situation required clever planning.
• Flexible lighting: Various presentation positions on and off stage.
• Illumination of the castle: The historic backdrop should be integrated in an atmospheric way.

02. Our solution

With a well-thought-out lighting concept and precise implementation, we met these requirements. Here are the key measures:

• Creative lighting design: Development of a coordinated concept for stage, audience and castle scenery.
• Flexible technology integration: Use of existing infrastructure combined with cutting-edge lighting technology.
• Atmospheric audience lighting: Front and background lights created a perfect atmosphere.
• Efficient logistics: Transport and assembly were optimally planned to cope with the challenging charging situation.
• Perfect technical implementation: Lighting operators, construction teams and coordinated processes ensured a smooth process.

03. The result

The result was a TV production that delighted both local audiences and viewers at home. Wilhelmstein Castle shone in atmospheric light, and the stage was perfectly illuminated for the camera images.

Our flexible and precise lighting not only created visual highlights, but also solved all technical and logistical challenges.
