Exhibition stand at FIBO 2023 in Cologne: flown LED cube despite low ceiling load capacity, LED walls for product presentation, lighting design, and uniform sound coverage – planned and implemented for the agency greyt from Brühl.

At FIBO 2023, the leading international trade fair for fitness, wellness, and health at Koelnmesse, we planned and implemented on behalf of the agency greyt from Brühl the exhibition stand for their client, a manufacturer of fitness and sports bars. The goal was a presence that immediately stood out in the hall and clearly showcased the brand.
The central challenge was a dual structural balancing act – one upwards, one downwards. Above the stand, the client wanted a flown LED cube display as a prominent eye-catching element. However, the permissible ceiling load in the hall was very low for this, so the weight of the hanging structure had to be precisely planned and reduced to the absolute minimum.
At the same time, a VW-Bus was to be placed in the middle of the stand. The floor structure at these points therefore had to achieve exactly the opposite: safely absorb high point loads and be load-bearing enough for the vehicle. Minimal weight above, maximum load-bearing capacity below – both in a confined space.
For the flown LED cube, we planned the complete rigging and developed a deliberately lightweight structure whose load we distributed across multiple suspension points – thus ensuring that the permissible ceiling load of the hall was always met. The required suspension points we ordered accordingly from Koelnmesse, coordinating with the fair organizers. We also planned and built the surrounding truss circle above the stand, from which all lighting technology was suspended – allowing the light to be fully and evenly distributed throughout the stand. Through precise load planning within the approved values, the cube could float above the stand as desired, without compromising safety.
We constructed the floor in the relevant stand areas to be particularly robust, allowing the VW bus to be safely positioned in the center of the stand without any sagging.
For lighting, we illuminated the stand using RGB panel lights of type Cameo W600 , which provided a broad, atmospheric ambient light in the brand colors. Additionally, Robe Esprite Moving Lights projected gobo patterns onto the floor and created targeted graphic accents – a detail that gave the stand additional depth and recognition.
Along the outer edges of the stand, we also set up compact LED walls measuring 3 × 2 m , on which the product was visually showcased as a highlight – ensuring the brand was present not only above the stand but also at eye level with visitors.
For uniform sound coverage of the stand area, we relied on dB-Technologies-X15-Tops, which distributed the sound evenly across the entire stand without overwhelming individual areas. Planning, rigging, stand construction statics, lighting, sound, and video technology, as well as setup and dismantling, were all handled by a single provider.
Despite the conflicting static requirements, a trade fair stand was created that appeared light and floating at the top while securely supporting the VW bus at the bottom. The suspended LED cube became a highly visible focal point at FIBO, while panel lighting, gobo projections, LED walls for product presentation, and balanced sound coverage cohesively showcased the brand.
For the agency greyt and its clients, we delivered an exhibit that combined technical precision and design impact – executed safely, on schedule, and meeting the high standards of a trade fair appearance at FIBO.
