Gamescom Game Break 2021 — A Streaming Event with Radiance

01. The challenge

In August 2021, when classic live events were not possible due to the pandemic, the Gamescom game break became a visionary streaming highlight. Together with Überkopf, we implemented this event in Hall 1 in Cologne. With a line-up that included Clueso and other top-class acts, as well as an ingenious lighting design by Fabian Schmidt, this project faced particular challenges:

• Short planning period: We started designing and implementing the event just 10 days before the start of the event.
• High technical effort: Several hundred lighting fixtures had to be precisely installed and coordinated.
• TV-compatible lighting design: The lighting had to be perfectly coordinated for both the streaming cameras and the live acts.
• Diverse coordination processes: Coordination between client, trades and Messe Köln required maximum precision.
• Flexibility and adaptability: Last-minute changes gave us the task of responding quickly and efficiently.

02. The solution

Our experienced team took over the entire technical implementation of the project and provided a lighting presentation that was both creative and precise. The key points of our work:

1. Complete planning and support: We developed a sophisticated lighting design that underlined the character of the event.
2. Technical Management and Operator Services: Our experts ensured smooth operations throughout the event.
3. Coordination with all parties involved: We worked closely with the trades and Messe Köln to meet the schedule and ensure a high-quality result.
4. Flexible lighting system: Thanks to modern technology and forward-looking planning, we were able to easily implement adjustments during the hot phase.
5. Integration of innovative lighting technology: State-of-the-art fixtures were used, which were impressive both in terms of functionality and effect.

03. The result

Despite the enormous time pressure, we transformed exhibition hall 1 into a top-class visual stage. The Gamescom game break 2021 became a prime example of innovative streaming events:

• Breathtaking lighting: The perfectly coordinated lighting ideally staged both the live acts and the camera images.
• Smooth process: Thanks to precise planning, the event went without technical disruptions.
• Impressive response: The event reached a wide audience and set standards for hybrid event concepts.
